Kelly Fearney, PE, Project Manager / Senior Engineer

'In school, I was always strong in math and science, so I knew I would choose a science related career. My mom, she is so wise, told me how water would be a great challenge during the 21st century – water would be the new gold and that wars would be fought over water. In hindsight, these subtle remarks steered my career. After receiving a bachelors of science in engineering at the University of Vermont, I moved to Durango to satisfy my love for the mountains. I worked for many years for a civil engineering firm. In 2014 when FEI started an office in Durango, everything fell into place- I was able to work in the water industry, work for a small firm, and continue to live in my favorite place.'

Most Memorable Project
My most memorable project has been, and continues to be, working for the Town of Milliken. The water immediately adjacent to the Town is average to poor quality and is challenging to treat. We continue to work with the Town to explore water sources and treatment technologies in order to provide long-term, affordable, and high quality water supply for generations to come.  Milliken is a small Town in need of cutting edge technology, creative thinking, and ingenuity.

The Personal Side
My husband and I met in Durango and bonded during many rock climbing and mountain biking trips.  In 2016, with the arrival of our son, our outdoor adventures have mellowed a bit, but we still love camping as a family.
